Robert Shields

Robert Hoke (Bob) Shields, 81, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010, at Golden Living Center. Robert was born April 17, 1928, in Quincy, Illinois, the son of the late William A. and Arvella G. (Hoke) Shields. On August 8, 1948, he was united in marriage in Plymouth, Illinois, to Norma Jean Waner who survives at the home. Bob was raised in Camp Point, Illinois where he graduated from Maplewood High School. He was an active member of the Camp Point Christian Church where he served as an elder and Sunday school teacher for many years. He attended Capital West Christian Church in Jefferson City. Bob was employed by McFarland-Francis Chevrolet and Camp Point Motor Co. prior to beginning a long career in livestock feed sales. From 1971 until 1996, he owned and operated Bob's Nutri-Ag Service in Troy, Missouri. Following his retirement from the feed business, he drove for OATS for eight years in Columbia. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by one son, Robert K. Shields on July 17, 2007. He is survived by his wife; one son, Greg L. Shields and his wife Linda of Jefferson City; a daughter-in-law, Mary Tuzzo of Quincy; one granddaughter, Amy Coyle; two step-grandchildren, William Simms (Jennifer) of Kansas City and Matthew Simms of Columbia; and two step-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, February 20, at Lummis-Hamilton Funeral Home in Camp Point, followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
