Stanley M. Tate, 78, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at the Oak Tree Villa. Stanley was born May 6, 1931, in Portland, Mo., the son of the late Kenneth and Nellie (Smith) Tate. On Feb. 2, 1974, in Carrington, Mo., he married Johnna Sue Wallace. She survives at the home. He is also survived by one son, Steven R. Tate of Plano Texas; one grandson, Jason Tate; two step-granddaughters, Jessica and Tiffany; and his lovable cats, Sugar and Spice. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Gregory A. Tate and Douglas A. Tate. A Fulton High School graduate, Stanley also attended the University of Mo. He served his country in the US Navy from 1950-1954. He had worked as an insurance agent and also for Commercial Credit Co. and Riley Chevrolet. Stanley was a member of Concord Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion Post 5 in Jefferson City. He loved to fish, play golf, and barbeque some great meals. He was a St. Louis Cardinal fan and Mizzou football fan. Stanley also loved to fly his single-engine airplane. The happiest times of his life were spent with his wife Johnna Sue and family and friends while telling stories and laughing together. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at the Debo Funeral Home with Dr. Monte Shinkle officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Callaway Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
