Kenneth L. Ziehmer, 68, of California, Mo., passed away Monday, February 1, 2010, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City, Mo. He was born November 16, 1941, in California, Mo., the son of Fritz B. and Eda L. (Reichel) Ziehmer, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married May 28, 1966, at Annunciation Catholic Church in California to Joyce Distler, who survives of the home. He was a 1959 graduate of California High School and served in the United States Army. For 38 years, he was a carpenter and co-owner of Ziehmer Brothers Construction. He also worked for 12 years in the Maintenance Department of California R-1 Schools. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in California, and was a member of the American Legion Post # 531 of Centertown, Mo., where he was a Post Commander. He was a member of the Recreation Board and coached boys and girls basketball, softball, baseball and bowling. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and had a caring demeanor towards all children. Survivors include: two sons, Tom Ziehmer and wife Athea, and Chris Ziehmer, all of California, Mo.; two daughters, Jennifer Bax and husband Jamie of Jefferson City, Mo., and Ashley Rissler and husband Delton of Latham, Mo.; two brothers, Frederick "Sonny" Ziehmer and wife Ruth of California, Mo., and Carl E. Ziehmer and wife Andree of California, Mo.; two sisters, Janet Anderson and husband Mike of Centertown, Mo., and Julie Pace and husband Robert of California, Mo.; and five grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 4, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church in California, Mo. Burial with full military honors will be in Annunciation Catholic Cemetery. Officiating will be Father Fred Elskamp.
