Mr. Sam Elmer Tremaine, age 93 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, January 30, 2010, at the Jefferson City Manor Nursing Center. Sam was born February 7, 1916, at home in Hartsburg, Mo., the son of Clarence Elmer and Ann Helen Helm Tremaine. He was married on March 23, 1941, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Anna Ruth Ekstam who preceded him in death on November 25, 2000. He graduated from Jefferson City High School and the Jefferson City Junior College. Sam served in the United States Navy as a mailman first class during World War II. He was employed with the United States Post Office for 30 years prior to his retirement in February, 1971. Sam was a member and minister in the Community of Christ Church. He became a Priest and then an Elder serving as pastor in Belle, Linn, and the Jefferson City congregations. Survivors include: two daughters, Patricia Ann Tremaine of Jefferson City, Mo. and Clara Elizabeth Tremaine of Jefferson City, Mo.; two sons, Stephen Dewain Tremaine of Jefferson City, Mo. and John Anthony Tremaine and his wife Kay of Holts Summit, Mo.; five grandchildren, April Church, Shawn Tremaine, Jacob Tremaine, Joseph Tremaine, all of Jefferson City and Lisa Tremaine of the state of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two children, Tammy Tremaine in 1962, and Sammy Tremaine in 1994. Visitation will be at the Community of Christ Church from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Saturday. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2010, at the Community of Christ Church, 1620 Vieth Dr., Jefferson City, Mo. Private graveside services and interment will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Jefferson City Community of Christ Church.
