Janice Ortmeyer Brandhorst

Janice Ortmeyer Brandhorst, 70, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at her home. She was born September 14, 1940, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Clarence and Anna Harfst Ortmeyer. She was a 1958 graduate of Jefferson City High School, earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, and earned her Master's Degree in Adult Education from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. On August 5, 1961, Janice was united in marriage in Jefferson City to Curt Brandhorst, E.D.D., who survives at their home. Janice was a Professor and Thesis Supervisor for Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota, and taught at Lutheran parishes in Kingston, New York, North Hollywood and Reseda, California, Webster Groves, Missouri, and Lincoln, Nebraska. She was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, a member of the Faculty Wife's Club at U.N.L, enjoyed cooking and doing crafts, and had devoted much of her time to caring for her mother. She is also survived by one son, Curt W. Brandhorst II and wife Bonnie of Sacramento, California; one brother, Steve Ortmeyer and wife Pat of Overland Park, Kansas; and one sister, Judy Scrivner and husband Larry of Houston, Texas. Services and entombment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at the Hawthorn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Tony Alter officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the C.T. Brandhorst Scholarship Fund at Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska.
