Virginia Beach

Virginia F. Beach, age 88, of Holts Summit, Mo., passed away Sunday, August 29, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, Ky. She was born June 3, 1922, in Hamburg, Iowa, a daughter of the late Bertle James and Ramona Violet (Holmes) Garrett. She was a 1940 graduate of Central High School in St. Joseph, Mo., and went on to graduate from the Johnson School of Business in St. Joseph, Mo. On September 25, 1942, Virginia was united in marriage in St. Joseph, Mo., to Arch E. Beach, who preceded her in death on April 18, 2009. Virginia was a secretary and worked for the Missouri Chamber of Commerce, Trinity Lutheran Church, and Northwest Missouri State University. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Holts Summit. She was also a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Virginia enjoyed tending to her herb garden, and also loved plants and flowers. She was an avid reader, and loved animals. She was always active in her church and enjoyed teaching Sunday school. She is survived by three children, Pamela Beach McIntyre of Salina, Kan., Andrew Garrett Beach of Jefferson City, Mo., Betsy Jane Beach of Elizabethtown, Ky., four grandchildren, Amy Richards, Ben Beach, Kate McIntyre, Allison Anders; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Alex and Jacob; and one sister, Patricia Korell (husband Billy) of St. Joseph, Mo. She was also preceded in death by a sister: Berta Archdekin. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at the Slater-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Holts Summit. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 2, 2010, at Grace Lutheran Church in Holts Summit, with Rev. John Diener officiating. Interment will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.
