Viola Shaon

Viola M. Newsom Pierson Shaon, age 95, of Fulton, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2010, at Fulton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 23, 1915, in Callaway County, a daughter of the late Jacob Hardin Newsom and Myrtle Oleta Smith. She married James Leonard Shaon on October 13, 1932, and he preceded her in death in August 1966. She later married James L. Pierson on November 10, 1967, and he preceded her in death on March 12, 1998. Viola worked for Woody's Cleaners and retired from the Fulton State Hospital. She had been very active as a 4-H Leader and Youth Group Leader. She was a member of the Millersburg Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing, quilting, cooking and was devoted to taking care of her family. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by three sons, Volley Shaon of Fulton, Ollie Shaon of Carrington, and Roy Lee Shaon of Fulton; one daughter, Viola Elizabeth Kemp of Mokane; one brother, Frank McCully of Auxvasse; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Viola was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; three sons, Russell, Charles and John Shaon; and two step-children, Patsy Mirts and Bobby Jo Pierson. Memorial services will be 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2010, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton, with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Maupin Funeral Home.
