Orville C.E. Overland, 81, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2010, at St. Mary's Health Center surrounded by his family. He was born December 1, 1928, in Grafton, North Dakota to Erick and Betsy Olson Overland. He was a 1948 graduate of Grafton, N.D. High School. Orville served in the North Dakota National Guard before joining the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952. While stationed in New York, he met his future wife at Stewart Air Force Base, who also was serving in the Air Force. Following his discharge, he was united in marriage in Jefferson City on August 3, 1957, to Suzann Krcmar from Mokane. He loved music all his life. In high school, Orville was choir director of his church and sang for all occasions in his home town. He was in the Air Force band for three years, was a member of the Kapital Kicks Orchestra in Jefferson City for 30 years and was music director at the Missouri State Penitentiary. He finished his working career as a Teamster until he retired in 1989. Orville was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir, and was a member of American Legion Roscoe Enloe Post 5 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693. Survivors include his wife, Suzann Krcmar of Jefferson City; two sons, Steven and David Overland; two grandchildren, Chris and Brittany; and two brothers, Edwin and Bert Overland. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister. Friends will be received from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Samuel Powell officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Ronald McDonald House.
