Edward C. Winter, 78, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, August 23, 2010, at Capital Region Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born October 19, 1931, in Trenton, Missouri, to Floyd Marion and Edith (Ripper) Winter. Mr. Winter was united in marriage to Sonna Lou Keen on March 28, 1951. They are the parents of two children, Michael E. Winter and Carrie Jo Sisson. Mr. Winter graduated from Trenton High School in 1950. He joined the United States Navy in January 1951, and was honorably discharged in 1955. He served overseas on U.S. Navy ships during the Korean War. After his discharge, he returned to Trenton, Missouri, and attended Trenton Junior College and the University of Missouri. In 1956, he became employed with the Wabash Railroad, later Norfolk Southern, where he served 35 years until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Moberly, Missouri, and the Moberly Masonic Lodge #344, where he served as Worshipful Master from 1972 - 1973 in Moberly, Missouri. After his retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Winter moved to Jefferson City. Mr. Winter joined the VFW Post 1003 and served with the Honor Guard, performing Honor Services for our veterans and their families. He is survived by his wife Sonna, of 59 years; his daughter: Carrie Jo Sisson (husband Don) of Jefferson City; his son: Michael E. Winter (wife Shelia) of Columbia; one grandson: Joshua Dennis of Jefferson City; one granddaughter: Ashley Siebenaler (husband Rick) of Moberly; three step-grandchildren: Jeremy Embree and Jodie Hardwick of Columbia; and Justin Embree of Moberly; one great-granddaughter: Addison Siebenaler of Moberly; and two step-great-grandchildren: Maci Hardwick of Columbia and Gaige Embree of Moberly; one sister: Virginia Rusk of Tucson, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters: Frances Chastain, Doris Burton, Maxine Boyer, Margie Gannon, Lorraine Bonner; his brother: Bill Winter; and his father-in-law: Churchill Keen. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home in Jefferson City. Masonic Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 26, 2010, at Cater Funeral Home in Moberly, Missouri, where the family will visit with friends following the service. Visitation will also be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the Rest Haven Funeral Home in Trenton, Missouri, where services will follow at 3:00 p.m. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
