Mr. George D. Coffman, age 82 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, August 21, 2010, at his home. George was born May 20, 1928, in Ethel, Mo., the son of Albert and Rachel Seney Coffman. He was married on March 25, 1949, in Moberly, Mo., to Virginia D. Holbrook, who preceded him in death on August 5, 1989. On June 15, 1990, in Jefferson City, Mo., he married Charlotte F. Hopkins. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, George attended school in Moberly, Mo. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. George was employed with Milo H. Walz and later owned and operated Coffman Appliance Sales and Service. He was employed for many years as a salesman at Sears until his retirement in December 1989. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2693. Survivors include: his wife, Charlotte Coffman; one son, Coby Coffman and his wife Jane of Jefferson City, Mo.; two daughters, Lisa Ittner and her husband Tom of Jefferson City, Mo., and Maribeth Neidert and her husband Kim of Jefferson City, Mo.; one step-daughter, Tammy Lindsay-Howell and her husband Albert of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three sisters, Martha Million of Bloomington, Ill., Dorothy Switzer of Ozark, Mo. and Dora Hoppe of Rio Rancho, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Chad Ittner, Julie Chappell and her husband John, Nancy Coffman, Kelly Hays and her husband Brian, Lindsey Coffman, Justin Hopkins, Quinton Lindsay and Olivia Lindsay; and two great-granddaughters, Avery Chappell and Briley Hays. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Virginia; one grandson, Cory Coffman; one step-son, Timothy Hopkins; and five brothers and sisters, Orville Coffman, Alberta Lorton, Vivian Brandow, Edith Coffman and Velma Pouliot. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 24, 2010. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with the Reverend Scott Musselman officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
