Dr. Robert Harry "Doc" Fuchs, 81, of Lake Ozark, died Thursday, August 19, 2010, at Adams Street Place in Jefferson City. He was born September 7, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of George J. and Helen Virginia (Seigle) Fuchs I. He graduated as a Captain in 1948, from Western Military Academy in Alton, Illinois, and spent three years in the Missouri National Guard. He attended the University of Missouri - Columbia, following in his father's footsteps as a major in Pre-Med. He was an All-Big Seven Conference and All-American football player at MU as a center and linebacker. In 1984, he was one of 41 players selected by Don Faurot for Faurot's All Star MU Grid Team, recognizing players from Faurot's 60 years as a player, coach and athletic director at Missouri. Doc was the only player selected as an all star on both offense and defense. At the end of his playing career at MU, Doc was drafted by the NFL's Colts, but decided to enter the University of Missouri Veterinary School of Medicine, graduating in 1956. Dr. Robert H. Fuchs, DVM, owned and operated The Animal Hospital in Jefferson City from 1956, until his retirement in 2002. He was a past member of Elks, Rotary, Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce, Lake Ozark Chamber of Commerce, A.B.M.A., A.V.M.A. and the National Small Business Association. On December 15, 1988, in Jefferson City, Dr. Fuchs was united in marriage to Anna Marie Strickland, who survives at their home. Other survivors include four children: Robert H. Fuchs Jr. and wife Peggy of Houston, Texas, David C. Fuchs of Harrison, Arkansas, Susan Mercer and husband Philip of Jefferson City, Nicholas T. Fuchs of Lake Ozark; one brother, Dr. William Fuchs, DDS, of Columbia; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Amy Fuchs in 1998, and a brother, Dr. George Fuchs, OBGYN of Columbia in 2002. Friends will be received from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 23, 2010, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Missouri Veterinary Medical Museum or the American Heart Association.
