Arlie Louis Bax, 70, of St. Elizabeth, died Sunday, August 1, 2010, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born November 19, 1939, in St. Elizabeth, a son of Joseph A. and Agatha Twehus Bax, both deceased. He was a 1958 graduate of St. Elizabeth R-4 High School. On October 13, 1962, Arlie was united in marriage in Mary's Home to Jane M. Schulte, who survives at their home. Arlie served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1958 to 1964. He worked for Albert H. Bax Trucking from 1962 to 1999, Scholastics, Inc. from 2000 to 2005, and was a school bus driver for the St. Elizabeth schools. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the Miller County Fox Hunter's Association. He was an avid hunter and St. Louis Cardinals fan, and also enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family. Other survivors include five children: Julie Schwaller and husband Dave of Mary's Home, Debbie Kempker and husband Russ of Mary's Home, Doug Bax and wife Carla of Jefferson City, Bev Drinkard and husband Bobby of Holts Summit, Lonnie Bax and wife Mandy of St. Elizabeth; 13 grandchildren: Ashley Schwaller, Jessica Schwaller, Angela Schwaller, Shawn Kempker, Heath Kempker, Chad Kempker, Macy Prather, Paige Bax, Dylan Bax, Olivia Bax, Ryan Bax, A.J. Drinkard, Haven Bax, Ashly Brown, Josh Curry; one sister: Mary Ann Bax and husband Jerry of St. Louis; one brother: Edward Bax and wife Joanne of O'Fallon; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Claire Bax on March 27, 2007; and four brothers: Albert, Norbert, Ted and William Bax. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Elizabeth Community Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 5, 2010, at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel I. J. Lueckenotte officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Lawrence Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to a charity of the family's choice.
