Melvin Charles Beul, 94, of Wentzville, formerly of Pershing, passed away Friday, July 30, 2010, at Twin Oaks at Heritage Pointe, Wentzville. Mr. Beul was born in Pershing on August 15, 1915, the son of the late Charles H. and Louise (Hilgenstoehler) Beul. He was the husband of Alveria M. (Schmitt) Beul. They were married January 28, 1939 at Bowling Green and she survives in Wentzville. He was a member of Zion-St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Pershing. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an avid Cardinal fan since the 1920's, and he once tried out for the cardinal baseball team. He played many years for the local Fredericksburg and Pershing baseball teams. He worked for the Army Corp of Engineers Kansas City office, he worked at Gasconade Boat Yard for 20 years and also owned and operated the Pershing General Store from 1942 to 1972, and he was a farmer. Melvin is also survived by a son, Gary Beul and wife Mary of O'Fallon; son, Douglas Beul and wife Rita of Jefferson City; daughter-in-law, Opal Beul of Lake St. Louis; daughter, Peggy Tedder and husband Monroe of O'Fallon; son, Dale Beul and wife Lisa of Pershing; son, Ron Beul and wife Becky of Augusta, Ga.; sisters, Viola Cordray of Hemet, Calif. and Esther Ades of Ottumwa, Iowa; 15 grandchildren, 19 great- grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Bob Beul; and one sister, Leora Heberle. Visitation will be held Monday, August 2, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Zion-St. Peter's Fellowship Hall, Pershing. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. from Zion-St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Pershing, with Rev. Barb Zastrow officiating. Burial will be at Pershing Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be given to Zion-St. Peter's United Church of Christ or Pershing Cemetery, c/o Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home.
