Mr. Arvil G. Walker Jr., age 85 years, of Versailles, Mo., a former Jefferson City resident, died Friday, July 30, 2010, at the Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles, Mo. Arvil was born April 13, 1925, in Hermann, Mo., the son of Arvil G. Sr. and Lena C. Hans. He was married on March 20, 1945, in Sedalia, Mo., to Beulah L. Hutinger, who preceded him in death on June 28, 1994. On August 26, 1995, in Jefferson City, Mo., he married Evelyn L. Swain. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Arvil attended Oak Grove school in Ashland, Mo. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Arvil was employed with several Jefferson City car dealerships as a mechanic for many years. Later, he was a machinist at A.B.B. until his retirement in 1986. He was an active member and deacon emeritus at the First Baptist Church of Versailles; the Jefferson Lodge No. 43, A.F. & A.M.; and the Order of the Eastern Star, Victoria Chapter No. 14. Survivors include: his wife, Evelyn Walker of Versailles, Mo.; three children, Clifford Walker and his wife Patty of Jefferson City, Mo., Dorothy Walker and her husband Gig Wheeler of Brownsville, Texas, and Brenda Schnieders and her husband Glenn of Jefferson City, Mo.; three step- children, David Swain and his wife Theresa of Brownstown, Ill., Carolyn Weems and her husband Jessie of Salem, Ill., and Donna Ritchey and her husband Russ of Vandalia, Ill.; one brother, Henry R. Nichols and his wife Jeannie; two sisters, Ruby Carey of Berthoud, Colo. and Helen Quinn of Hartsburg, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, 29 great- grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, 11 step- grandchildren and 23 step- great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday with a Masonic Service and an Eastern Star Service to be conducted at 6:30 p.m. in the Freeman Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 4, 2010, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Todd Forman officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Versailles; the Order of the Eastern Star, Victoria Chapter No. 14; or the Preferred Hospice of Columbia, Mo.
