Florence Odette Schaffer, 91, of Columbia, passed away Monday, April 19, 2010. Odette was born November 15, 1918, in Windsor, to Arthur and Florence Ethel Henry Dunn. She graduated from Windsor High School and the University of Missouri with a degree in Home Economics. She married Van Schaffer of Hannibal on September 4, 1947, and he preceded her in death. Her daughter, Vanette Noll, is a retired school teacher from Hallsville Elementary School. Vanette's students called Odette "Grandma Schaffer" when she visited the classroom. Odette and Van were charter members of the Community Christian Church in Jefferson City. After moving to Columbia to be with her family, she attended First Christian Church. Survivors include her daughter: Vanette Noll and husband Dan of Columbia; two granddaughters: Amy Lundquist and Jessica Reiss; two brothers: Euel Dunn and Paul Dunn and wife Cena, all of Clinton; a sister: Helen Houk of Clinton; a great-grandson: Brady Reiss; a great-granddaughter: Adrienne Martin; and a great-granddaughter due in April, 2010; four nieces: Jeanie, Carol, Nancy, and Janet; and two nephews: Bill and Lynn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother: Porter Dunn, who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge. She was a loving wife and a wonderful mother. Her love of giving touched many lives. We will miss her dearly. Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 26, at Parker Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to First Christian Church.
