Post 5 Seniors start Battle of Omaha at 1-1

PAPILLION, Neb. - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors were three outs away from opening the Battle of Omaha Tournament with a 2-0 record.

Post 5 led Post 171 from Gladwin, Mich. 2-0 heading to the seventh inning, but three runs crossed the plate as Post 171 came away with a 3-2 victory Friday.

Post 5 began the tournament with a 7-1 victory against Clever earlier in the day.

Joseph Travis struck out nine while pitching five scoreless innings in the win. He also had two hits, including a two-RBI single for a 6-0 lead in the fourth inning.

Parker Schneiders also had a pair of hits, including an RBI single as part of a four-run third inning.

Zach Stiles got the scoring going with an RBI single. He ended up with two of Jefferson City's eight hits.

Post 5 scored both of its runs against Post 171 in the second inning.

Parker Schneiders scored when Gage Bax grounded out and Jacob Adrian came home on a wild pitch. Adrian had both of Jefferson City's hits.

Post 5 will face Papillion and the CFD Saints today.
