Rundle advances at Missouri Amateur

CAPE GIRARDEAU - Jack Rundle of Jefferson City advanced to the match play portion of the Missouri Amateur with the conclusion of stroke play Wednesday.

Rundle finished in a four-way tie for 14th with a 2-over 146. After shooting a 75 in Tuesday's opening round, Rundle carded a 1-under 71 on Wednesday at Dalhousie Golf Club.

Four other area players did not finish in the top 64 in the field to advance to match play.

Alex Gentry rebounded from an opening-round 89 to shoot a 75 on Wednesday to finish in a tie for 110th at 14. Nathan Erickson followed his 81 on Tuesday with an 83 on Wednesday to also finish in a tie at 110th with a 164. Gerald Siemons, the oldest player in the field at age 72, finished tied for 119th with rounds of 85 and 81 for a total of 146. Logan Taylor shot rounds of 78 and 88 for a total of 146 as well to be in the tie at 119.

Brad Nurski of St. Joseph, the defending champion, captured individual honors in stroke play with a total of 135. He shot a 5-under 67 on Tuesday and totaled a 4-under 68 on Wednesday to finish four shots better than runner-up Chance Holden of Dexter.

Five other players finished the two rounds of stroke play under par. Travis Simmons of Cape Girardeau was third at 141, while Christopher Ferris of St. Louis and Timothy Holmes of Springfield tied for fourth at 142. Jack Knoesel of Columbia and Sam Migdal of Ballwin finished at 143.

A total of 32 matches will be played today in the tournament. Play will continue through Sunday's 36-hole title match.
