Nurski leads field at Mo. Amateur

CAPE GIRARDEAU - Brad Nurski picked up right where he left off at the Missouri Amateur.

Nurski, the defending champion, shot a 5-under par 67 on Tuesday to lead the field after the opening day at Dalhousie Golf Club. Nurski also won the Missouri Amateur in 2010.

Three players - Travis Simmons of Cape Girardeau, Sam Migdal of Ballwin and Jack Knoesel of Columbia - are tied for second at 69. Three more players shot 70 on Tuesday - Timothy Holmes of Springfield, Buddy Allen of Pevely and Christopher Ferris of St. Louis.

Jack Rundle leads the contingent of players from Jefferson City after the first round. He is tied for 23rd after the opening round, carding a 3-over 75. Rundle, who was 3-under after his first nine holes, had four birdies to go along with five bogeys and one double bogey Tuesday.

Nathan Erickson shot a 9-over 81 on Tuesday and is tied for 97th, while Gerald Siemons shot an 85 and is tied for 124th. Alex Gentry finished with an 89 and is tied for 138th.

Logan Taylor of Holts Summit is among a group tied for 57th after shooting a 6-over 78 on Tuesday.

The field will be trimmed to 64 players after today's round of 18 holes. The match play portion of the tournament will begin Thursday and will run through the 36-hole championship match Sunday.
