Helias goes 2-0-1 in Jamboree

The offense got off to a great start Thursday for the Helias Lady Crusaders.

On the other side, the defense was consistent throughout as the Lady Crusaders finished 2-0-1 in a soccer Jamboree at the 179 Soccer Park.

"We scored some goals and we didn't give up any," Helias coach Brad Dempsey said. "You can't complain about that, all of the girls did a great job."

In the Jamboree format, teams play one 25-minute session.

It took Helias all of :16 to record its first goal as the Lady Crusaders opened with a 6-0 victory against the School of the Osage Lady Indians.

Reese Hamilton tallied three goals for the Lady Crusaders, including the quick one.

"Reese had a great day, she's going to have a great season," Dempsey said.

Sarah Pierle, Maya Heckert and Morgan Wieberg all recorded one goal each against the Lady Indians.

"We've been working hard at being aggressive on offense, taking the ball at people," Dempsey said. "I think that showed against Osage."

Hamilton scored again for Helias in its next session, a 2-0 victory against the Fatima Lady Comets. Michalee Sipi had the other goal for the Lady Crusaders.

Helias wrapped up action against Jefferson City. Neither team was able to put the ball in the net as the contest ended scoreless.

"The energy we had in the first game was not there in the last one," Dempsey said. "I don't know what it was. But we have to have consistency against our opponents this season."

Ashley Rehagen was in goal in all three sessions for the Lady Crusaders.

Dempsey was glad the Lady Crusaders had the opportunity for some game-type action before the regular season starts next week.

"We got the chance to compete against other teams, which is something we needed as we get ready to start the season," he said. "It's three different styles from different teams and it gave us a chance to see a lot of players at different positions."

Helias is scheduled to open the season Tuesday at Waynesville before starting the home slate with a contest Thursday against St. Joseph's Academy.
