Central Missouri Phenom goes undefeated at Park University showcase

PARKVILLE - The Central Missouri Phenom Black baseball team won all four games during a weekend showcase held Friday through Sunday at Park University.

The Phenom - the only team at the showcase to finish 4-0 - started the weekend with an 8-2 win against the Midwest Scouts on Friday. Ethan Bull, Ethan Rackers and Tyler Cassmeyer each pitched two innings in the win. Cassmeyer led the way with five strikeouts.

Kory Stephens had two hits and two RBI, and Mason Gipe drove in a pair of runs.

The Phenom picked up a pair of wins Saturday, topping CMP Blue 6-3 and blanking Barnstormers 6-0.

Cade Galbraith struck out five batters in four innings to beat CMP Blue. Garrett Welschmeyer had a pair of hits and one RBI.

Phenom pitchers held Barnstormers to one hit in seven innings. Cassmeyer recorded six strikeouts in 21/3 innings of work. At the plate, Andrew Rodriguez had two hits and Stephens drove in two runs.

In Sunday's 11-2 win against Complete Game, Welschmeyer drove in three runs to lead the Phenom and Taylor Dobbins had two hits and two RBI. Rodriguez and Graysan Peneston each pitched three innings. Peneston struck out four batters and Rodriguez tallied three strikeouts.

Prior to this past weekend's showcase, the Central Missouri Phenom finished second in a tournament held June 16-18 at Quincy, Ill.

The Phenom won their first four games of the tournament before falling 9-4 to Team Combat in the championship game.

Team Combat broke a 2-all tie with a four-run fifth inning. Welschmeyer led the Phenom with two hits. Cassmeyer pitched all seven innings, finishing with eight strikeouts.

The Phenom opened the tournament with a 7-0 win against the CG Padres. Rodriguez pitched a two-hitter and struck out 12. Peneston and Rackers each had two hits.

Gipe drove in five runs to lead the Phenom to a 12-4 win against Team Combat earlier in the tournament, while Ethan Bull had two hits and two RBI. Logan Agan also struck out three batters in 21/3 innings pitched.

The Phenom tallied 10 hits in a 10-3 win against CMP Blue. Rackers had three RBI and Rodriguez, Gipe and Peneston each had two hits.

Rackers and Peneston then combined to pitch a one-hitter in a 4-1 win against Dirtbags. Peneston also drove in a pair of runs.

The Central Missouri Phenom have a 13-3 record this summer and will play in the Patriot Classic this weekend at Fort Scott, Kan.
