Post 5 Seniors blank Washington in Zone Tournament

WASHINGTON, Mo. - Two games in, the Jefferson City Post 5 Seniors have yet to allow a run in the American Legion Zone 1 tournament.

Jason Rackers struck out 10 batters in six innings, while Post 5 pounded out 14 hits Friday in an 8-0 win against Washington Post 218 at Ronsick Field.

Jefferson City needs one more win to advance to the state tournament, which will be held next week in Sedalia.

Post 5 took the lead in the top of the third inning. Back-to-back RBI doubles by Parker Schnieders and Jonathon Backes gave Jefferson City a 2-0 edge.

Schnieders delivered again in a four-run fourth for Post 5, hitting a two-run double. He scored later in the inning to extend the lead to 6-0.

Rackers delivered an RBI single in the seventh and Backes added a sacrifice fly in the ninth to push Jefferson City's lead to eight runs.

Ryan Paschal and Schnieders each went 3-for-5, each finishing with one single and two doubles. Brandon Williams and Rackers each had two singles.

Schnieders and Backes each had three RBI.

Rackers picked up the win on the mound, scattering three hits and walking two in six scoreless innings. Logan Bexten threw the final three innings, allowing one hit and one hit while finishing with one strikeout.

The Post 5 Seniors (25-7) will play in the championship game at 4 p.m. today. Their opponent is still to be determined.
