Elder, Franks lead area players at golf tourney

O'FALLON, Mo. - Tanner Elder and Kory Franks, former teammates at Blair Oaks, led area golfers as play concluded Wednesday in the Missouri Stroke Play Championship.

Elder and Franks tied for 18th after the four-round event at WingHaven Country Club, each totaling a 300 to finish at 12 over par in the Missouri Golf Association event.

Elder, who signed earlier this year to play at Columbia College, recovered from his 82 in the opening round Monday to finish at even par in the final three. On Wednesday, he shot rounds of 72 and 76.

Franks, who plays at Missouri State, carded rounds of 76 and 78 on Wednesday.

Nathan Erickson of Jefferson City tied for 44th with a four-round total of 310. He shot rounds of 77 and 79 on Wednesday.

Gabe Trowbridge of Jefferson City tied for 51st at 313 after totaling rounds of 80 and 78 on Wednesday.

Sam Migdal of Ballwin claimed the tournament title with a 3-under 285.

Migdal recorded rounds of 71 and 69 on the final day to finish two shots ahead of Jeremy Franklin of St. Louis.

Alex Cusumano of St. Louis and Travis Mays of Overland Park, Kan., tied for third at even-par 288.
