Helias rallies past Troy in third-place game at Fort Zumwalt North tourney

O'FALLON - The Helias Crusaders scored 27 unanswered points, holding the Troy Trojans scoreless during the third quarter Friday in a 44-39 win in the third-place game of the Fort Zumwalt North Tournament.

Helias trailed 12-6 after one quarter and was down 22-10 midway through the second quarter. That's when the Crusaders began their 27-0 run, not allowing Troy to score again until the fourth quarter.

The Trojans led 22-19 at half and the Crusaders were ahead 32-22 at the end of the third quarter. Helias extended its lead to 37-22 in the fourth quarter and managed to hold on for the 5-point victory.

Landon Harrsion led Helias with 15 points. Nick Brandt added 10 points.

Harrison, Brandt and Nathan Bax were named to the all-tournament team.

Helias (15-3) will play Tuesday at Quincy Notre Dame.

In the Fort Zumwalt North JV Tournament championship game, Jake VanLoo hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Helias at 41-38 win Friday against the Sikeston Bulldogs.

Helias trailed Sikeston 34-19 after three quarters, outscoring the Bulldogs 22-4 in the fourth quarter.

Trevor Austin led the Crusaders with 17 points. VanLoo scored 13 points, all in the fourth quarter.

Helias (10-1) will host Fulton on Monday in the first round of the Helias JV Tournament.
