Missouri baseball beats No. 25 Houston

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Missouri baseball team has started its weekend trip in Texas 2-0 after beating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 7-6 on Thursday and No. 25 Houston 4-2 Friday.

Missouri got off to a 4-0 lead Thursday thanks to second inning home runs from Alex Samples and Robbie Glendinning. The Islanders put up a five-run fifth inning against Tigers starter Tanner Houck to take a 5-4 lead. Chris Cornelius' sacrifice bunt in the seventh tied the game at 5, and back-to-back bases-loaded walks to Connor Brumfield and Cornelius gave Missouri the lead.

Houck pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up five runs, four earned, on six hits and three walks. He struck out five.

Cole Bartlett (2-0) got the win in relief. Brett Bond went 3-for-5 for Missouri.

Against Houston, Missouri took a 2-0 lead in the third inning after Matt Berler scored on a pass ball and Samples hit a sacrifice fly. The Cougars tied it in the top of the sixth and Brumfield got the lead for the Tigers after a two-run single in the bottom of the frame.

Andy Toelken (1-0) went 6 1/3 innings for Missouri,  giving up two solo home runs to go among seven hits. He struck out four. T.J. Sikkema got his first save for Missouri. Glendinning went 2-for-3 in both games.

Missouri (5-1) plays Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 6 p.m. today.
