Helias boys lose to Quincy Notre Dame

QUINCY, Ill. - The Helias Crusaders were on the verge of knocking off the No. 2 team in Illinois' Class 2A state rankings Tuesday, but the Quincy Notre Dame Raiders scored 27 points in the fourth quarter to rally for a 73-66 win.

Helias held a slim 18-17 advantage after one quarter, but the Crusaders were able to stretch their lead to 36-27 by halftime.

Quincy Notre Dame cut the Helias lead to 47-46 by the end of the third quarter. Landon Harrison knocked down a pair of 3-pointers early in the fourth quarter, pushing the Crusaders' lead to 53-46.

The Raiders would outscore the Crusaders 27-13 the rest of the way.

Harrison and Nick Brandt each scored 21 points to lead Helias, while Dalton Weaver also scored in double figures with 11 points.

Helias (15-4), ranked No. 4 in Class 4 by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association, will host Hogan Prep at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the final game of the Central Bank Shootout at Rackers Fieldhouse.

In the JV game, Quincy Notre Dame won 64-53, dropping Helias' record to 11-2

Carter Toebben scored 19 points for the Crusaders, while Jake VanLoo and Isaac Johnson finished with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Helias will host Blair Oaks today in the semifinals of the Helias JV Tournament.
