Jays fall 30-29 to Lebanon in wrestling dual

LEBANON - The Jefferson City Jays dropped a 30-29 decision in wrestling action Thursday to the Lebanon Yellowjackets.The loss snapped Jefferson City's streak of 44 straight regular-season dual victories.

"The kids wrestled really, really hard," Jays coach Phil Cagle said. "I'm really proud of them."

The Jays won eight of the 14 matches Thursday.

Reece Neighbors won by fall at 152 pounds, while Peter Kuster at 138 (14-0) and Christian Mayberry at 145 (13-1) both won by major decisions.

Winning by decision were Will Kuster at 126 (5-2), Charlie Kusick at 132 (8-4), Dennis Barnes at 160 (5-0), Tyler Bise at 170 (7-5) and Devontae Finney at 285 (2-1).

"Our kids battled up and down the lineup," Cagle said. "I think our inexperience showed in a few spots, but we're going to work to get better."

Jefferson City is back in action Dec. 9-10 in the Missouri Duals.
