Robertson, Voss wrap up minor league seasons

Two former area baseball standouts wrapped up their minor league baseball seasons earlier this month.

Will Robertson (Fatima High School), who played for the Vancouver Canadians, a Single-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, was named the Northwest League Player of the Week during the final week of the season from Aug. 26-Sept. 2.

During that span, Robertson hit home runs in three consecutive games, becoming the first Canadians player to do so since 2010.

In the team's final 10 games, Robertson batted .421 (16-for-38) and had a team-high eight RBI during the final week of the season.

He finished the season leading Vancouver with 33 RBI and six home runs, and he was second on the team with a .268 batting average.

Through his first 17 professional games, Robertson was batting just .127, but he used a 10-game hitting streak to help pull his average to about .250. He collected three or more hits in three of his final four games.

Vancouver finished the season with a 15-23 record.

Jacob Voss (Linn High School), who played for the Orem Owlz, a Rookie League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, made his last appearance of the season Sept. 4 in the Pioneer League.

In that game, Voss pitched two scoreless innings of relief, walking one and striking out four batters in a 3-1 win against the Ogden Raptors. Voss was credited with the hold, his fourth of the season.

In the appearance before that, Voss made his longest outing of the season, throwing three scoreless innings and striking out two in a 7-1 win against the Rocky Mountain Vibes on Aug. 30.

Those last two outing lowered Voss' season ERA by more than two runs. In 22 innings pitched this season, he had a 7.77 ERA with 31 walks, 33 strikeouts and a 2-0 record with one save.

In two seasons in the Angels' farm system, Voss has compiled a 5-1 record with three saves and a 6.55 ERA, striking out 67 batters in 45 innings.
