Helias grad Hackmann to play pro ball in Australia

Olivia Hackmann, a graduate of Helias High School, has signed to play basketball with the Selkirk Ballarat Rush in Australia.

"I've been to Australia before on a holiday with my family, but I don't know a lot about the country and I'm excited to learn all about it," Hackmann said in a release by the team.

Hackmann, who was selected as the Class 4 Player of the Year by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association her senior season at Helias, played collegiately at Southeast Missouri State.

"Olivia is a very talented player and a super competitor," Ballarat Selkirk Rush coach Eric Hayes said in the release. "She will bring a real competitive spirit to our program on both ends of the court."

Hackmann played from 2012-17 at Southeast Missouri State and is the ninth in scoring with 1,065 points since the program moved to NCAA Division I. She is ninth all-time with 94 3-pointers and 10th in blocked shots with 61.

"Offensively, she is a very good scorer from all over the floor as she has a nice shot and she is also crafty with moves to the ring," Hayes said. "On defense, she is a hard worker and very good rebounder."

It is Hackmann's first overseas contract.

"I am looking forward to meeting new people and making new connection with the Ballarat community," she said. "I am hoping to bring energy and leadership to the Ballarat Rush and I can't wait to arrive and get into practice and the season."

Hackmann is scheduled to arrive in Ballarat later this month before the season tips off March 30.

Selkirk Ballarat Rush plays in the Victorian Elite League, which will be its first season.

The team is based in Ballarat, Australia. It is the third largest inland city in Australia with a little more than 100,000 residents.
