ST. LOUIS (AP) - Michael Wacha pitched six solid innings, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs 8-1 on Saturday night to become the first major league team with 50 wins.

Jason Heyward reached four times in St. Louis' fifth straight victory. The major league-best Cardinals (50-24) have five winning streaks of five games or more this season.

Wacha (10-3) allowed one run and six hits, bouncing back from a rough start at Philadelphia. The right-hander was tagged for five runs and eight hits against the Phillies in his worst start of the season last Sunday.

Donn Roach (0-1) took the loss in his season debut for Chicago, which has dropped four in a row after a four-game winning streak.

RANGERS 4, BLUE JAYS 0

TORONTO (AP) - Yovani Gallardo extended his scoreless streak to a career-high 23 innings by pitching three-hit ball into the ninth, and the Texas Rangers snapped a season-worst six-game skid with a victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Mitch Moreland, Robinson Chirinos and Rougned Odor all hit solo home runs for the Rangers, who won for the first time since beating the White Sox on June 19.

Gallardo (7-6) fell two-outs shy of his first shutout and first complete game since 2011. He won his fourth straight decision.

Promoted from Triple-A Buffalo to make his major league debut, Blue Jays left-hander Matt Boyd (0-1) allowed four runs and nine hits, including three homers, in 6 2-3 innings.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pirates star center fielder Andrew McCutchen was hit in the left elbow by a pitch and exited during a five-run first inning as Pittsburgh sent the Braves to their fifth straight loss.

McCutchen took a fastball from Julio Teheran (5-4). X-rays were negative and the 2013 NL MVP will be reevaluated on Sunday.

Starling Marte got three hits and scored three times for the Pirates.

Jordy Mercer, Francisco Cervelli and Pedro Alvarez drove in two runs each for Pittsburgh. Charlie Morton (6-1) pitched into the seventh to bounce back from a rough start in Washington last weekend.

ANGELS 4, MARINERS 2

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Seattle Mariners star Robinson Cano was hit in the head by a stray ball while the Angels were warming up in between innings and exited early in Los Angeles' win.

Cano had a sizable welt near his left temple after being struck in the dugout when an errant throw got past Angels first baseman Albert Pujols before the seventh inning. Cano felt dizzy and was taken to the clubhouse, where the Mariners' medical staff checked the second baseman for a concussion. No signs of one were found.

Garrett Richards (8-5) pitched into the eighth inning, Kole Calhoun hit a two-run homer and third baseman David Freese made a couple of key defensive plays. J.A. Happ (3-5) took the loss.

YANKEES 9, ASTROS 6

HOUSTON (AP) - Brian McCann hit a grand slam and Chris Young homered to give New York an early lead, and Mark Teixeira had a tiebreaking two-run double in the eighth after the Yankees squandered that cushion in a win over Houston.

McCann's slam came in the first. A two-run shot by Young off Brett Oberholtzer put the Yankees up 6-0.

Oberholtzer was ejected with one out in the second inning for throwing at Alex Rodriguez.

Rookie Carlos Correa hit a two-run homer in the fifth and Jose Altuve connected on the next at-bat to tie it up.

Teixeira doubled off Pat Neshek (3-1).

Chasen Shreve (5-1) got the last two outs of the seventh inning for the win.

MARLINS 3, DODGERS 2

MIAMI (AP) - Tom Koehler pitched seven innings, and Miami beat Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers in the Marlins' first game since Giancarlo Stanton was sidelined by a hand injury.

Christian Yelich tied a career high with four hits for the Marlins, who snapped a five-game losing streak. Koehler (6-4) allowed two runs and six hits.

Stanton broke his left hand during Friday night's 7-1 loss to Los Angeles. The slugger is expected to miss four to six weeks.

Kershaw (5-6) allowed three runs, one earned, and seven hits in seven innings. The left-hander struck out nine and walked none.

TWINS 5, BREWERS 2

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Torii Hunter homered twice and doubled, Eduardo Escobar hit a three-run homer and the Twins beat the Brewers.

Kyle Gibson (5-6) allowed two runs and six hits in 6 2-3 innings. He had lost a career-worst three straight decisions after starting June with a no-decision in the Twins' 10-5 loss to Milwaukee at Target Field.

Hunter homered in the sixth off Matt Garza (4-10) and in the ninth against Corey Knebel.

RAYS 4, RED SOX 1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Matt Andriese and three relievers combined on a three-hitter, Jake Elmore hit a two-run homer and the Rays beat the Red Sox.

Wade Miley (7-7) gave up two runs, five hits, two walks and struck out eight over 6 1-3 innings for Boston.

After Jake McGee threw a perfect seventh, Kevin Jepsen gave up a solo homer in the eighth to Alejandro De Aza.

ROYALS 3, ATHLETICS 2

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Chris Young bounced back from his worst start of the season to pitch six innings and the Royals beat the Athletics.

Young (7-3) allowed four hits and two runs. He walked one and struck out four.

GIANTS 7, ROCKIES 5

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Buster Posey drove in two runs, and Andrew Susac had a three-run double in the seventh inning to rally the Giants to a victory over the Rockies.

Matt Duffy added three hits, including a home run, for the Giants, who won three games in a homestand for the first time since sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 19-21.

Nolan Arenado extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an RBI double for the Rockies, who had won five of six.

George Kontos (2-0) pitched a scoreless seventh for the win. Santiago Casilla pitched the ninth for his 20th save.

Rafael Betancourt (2-3), making his second appearance since being activated from the disabled list, gave up Susac's hit.

PADRES 7, DIAMONDBACKS 2

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Justin Upton hit a two-run homer and the San Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks to get consecutive wins for the first time in three weeks.

Upton connected for his 14th home run on a full-count pitch from Jeremy Hellickson (5-5) to break a 2-all tie in the fifth inning.

Andrew Cashner (3-9) pitched seven solid innings to win for the first time since May 27, a span of six starts. Cashner also drove in a run with a bunt single.

San Diego last won consecutive games during a four-game streak June 2-6. The victory moved San Diego ahead of Arizona into third place in the NL West. The Padres are 5-6 since interim manager Pat Murphy took over after Bud Black was fired.

REDS 1, METS 1, 6 INNINGS, SUSPENDED

NEW YORK (AP) - Matt Harvey stayed steady in the rain and Curtis Granderson homered again for the Mets before their game against the Reds was suspended after six innings with the score tied 1-all.

Brandon Phillips had an RBI double for the Reds, giving him a hit in all 31 road games he's played against the Mets.

Rookie right-hander Michael Lorenzen matched Harvey most of the way and received relief help from Manny Parra, who retired Granderson on a 3-1 pitch with the bases loaded to end the sixth.

With the rain getting heavier, umpires stopped play and signaled for the tarp. More showers were in the forecast at night, and the game was called following a 53-minute delay. All statistics will count.

The game will resume Sunday at 1:10 p.m. with the top of the seventh inning before the teams play their previously scheduled series finale.
