Reds' Double-A prospect pitches gem Saturday

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Tyler Mahle pitched a perfect game Saturday, leading the Pensacola Blue Wahoos to a 1-0 victory against the Mobile BayBears.

Mahle (4-0) retired all 27 batters he faced, including eight via strikeout, and lowered his season ERA to 0.68 for the Reds' Double-A affiliate. He threw just 88 pitches.

Drafted by the Reds in the seventh round in 2013, Mahle is rated as to Reds' No. 12 prospect in the minors by Baseball America. He pitched a no-hitter last season for Single-A Daytona.

The game's only run was scored in the top of the second inning. After leading off the inning with a double, Aristides Aquino advanced to third on a flyout and then scored on a single by Joe Hudson.

Tyler Carpenter (1-2) went eight innings, allowing one run and two hits to take the hard-luck loss in the Southern League game. He struck out six and walked one.
