The St. Louis University High Junior Bills were dominant offensively in the first 15 minutes, getting chunk plays through the air and on the ground.

Their defense was a force too, sacking Jefferson City Jays quarterback Cole Gresham five times in their first two possessions.

The Jays couldn't make up for that in the remaining 33 minutes as the Junior Bills broke a two-game losing streak with a 35-14 victory Friday night at Adkins Stadium.

"They just flat out executed better than we did," Jefferson City coach Terry Walker said after the Jays dropped their record to 2-2. "They were more physical at the point of attack both on offense and defense.

"That's where the game is won or lost is at the line of scrimmage. The bottom line is they just whipped us."

Junior bills running back Kellen Porter scored his third of four touchdowns at the 9:21 mark of the second quarter.

Porter ran through a hole on the right side and wasn't touched until safety Devin White met him at the goal line on the 7-yard score.

Thomas Ziegler booted his third of five extra points for a 21-0 lead.

"You've got to win your one-on-one battle more frequently than the other guy wins his one-on-one battle," Walker said. " We love our kids, our kids play hard for us. That's great, but we have to figure out how to execute better. That is the bottom line.

"And that's the responsibility of me as a head coach, all the assistant coaches and all the players."

The game's first touchdown was set up by a 29-yard toss from Brendan Hannah to Isaac Thompson, who got behind the defense and made a diving catch.

"We had one alignment or assignment bust early in the game but aside from that, I thought the kids were matched up," Walker said.

Two plays later, Porter got to the outside for a 39-yard touchdown just 1:52 into the game.

Porter scored from three yards out with 1:40 left in the first quarter and added a fourth score from 9 yards out with 7:45 remaining in the third quarter for a 28-7 lead.

Porter gained 177 yards on 20 attempts.

The Junior Bills' (2-2) final trip to the end zone was assisted by a muffed punt at the 38-yard line.

Porter ran it twice for 17 yards and Sidq Cherry went the remaining 21 yards on two carries, including a 5-yard touchdown for a 35-14 lead with 3:54 left in the game.

The Jays got something going in the passing game on their first scoring drive as Gresham completed a 17-yard pass to Nick Williams and a 26-yard toss to Darrell Jones, who caught the pass against tight coverage at the front pylon to get the Jays on the board with 37.4 seconds remaining in the first half.

Gresham completed 11-of-22 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns.

Jones had two receptions for 50 yards with two scores, White caught six passes for 37 yards and Williams had 48 yards on three receptions.

Ben Folz made the first of his two extra-point attempts to make the halftime score 21-7.

Jones picked off Hannah on a deep pass intended for Thompson early in the fourth quarter and had a 24-yard catch and run on the ensuing drive to cut the deficit to 28-14 with 7:58 left.

"There's some great individual performances that are occurring on some plays, but individual performances never win a game," Walker said.

David Bethune also intercepted a pass on an overthrown ball prior to the Jays' first scoring drive.

Jefferson City will host the Chaminade Red Devils at 7 p.m. next Friday for Homecoming.

Chaminade (3-1) defeated Vianney 44-0 on Friday.
