Reece DeSimone had Ella Schouten figured out.

Many of the other Jefferson City Lady Jays couldn't get much contact off the Rock Bridge junior pitcher as they dropped Tuesday's game 6-1 at Vogel Field.

Jefferson City's lone run came when DeSimone drove the first pitch of the bottom of the fourth over the fence in left field.

It's the second straight game with a homer for the junior.

"She's swinging real well in practice," Jefferson City coach Zac Miller said. "It's great whenever that gets to transfer over to the game, not just in the cage but on the field."

The top half of that inning was when the Bruins did the most damage, scoring four runs with two outs.

Kayla Mooney sent a fly ball to left field for an RBI double before a high throw to first base put Jillian Larkin on base and another run on the board for the Bruins (9-2), who had lost four straight to the Lady Jays.

Leadoff batter Maddie Snider made it 5-0 with a two-run home run to right-center.

Margo Frossard added a two-out RBI double in the fifth, the sixth run scored with two outs.

In the sixth, Megan Green relieved Avrey Reynolds, who allowed three earned runs and 10 hits while walking none.

Green made quick work of the Bruins, getting two groundouts and a fly out in the sixth and three groundouts in the seventh.

The Lady Jays (3-3) got their third hit off Schouten in the sixth on a one-out DeSimone single to right field.

Schouten walked three and struck out six, including the final batter looking on a pitch on the outer half of the plate.

"We told them from the get-go that she's going to hammer the outside," Miller said. "That's what we saw last year from her. She'll come inside every now and then, but for the most part she's going outside.

"We knew that was what her game plan was and that's what she did and we just had a hard time transferring over from practice in the game in the box."

DeSimone went 2-for-3 and Maddy Lux added a single to left field in the fourth.

"She had a great game the last few games," Miller said of DeSimone. "Defensively, making great plays and then offensively definitely our best offensive stick tonight. Hopefully we rest of the team will start clicking along and getting some better at-bats in there."

Jefferson City is off until Friday when it begins play in the 16-team Lady Jays Classic at Binder Park.

Jefferson City will open with Macon at 2 p.m. and face either East Carter or Camdenton at 5:30 p.m.

The semifinals and place games will be played Saturday.
