Lady Jays top Helias in tennis dual

The Jefferson City Lady Jays won all six singles matches Wednesday, defeating the Helias Lady Crusaders 8-1 at the Crusader Athletic Complex.

In doubles play, Jefferson City's Sandhiya Baskar and Akhi Donthireddy won 8-2 against Jessica Cowley and Sage Bentlage, while Madelyn Becker and Sudhi Kumar picked up a 9-7 win against Mya Bremer and Carley Drinkard.

Helias' lone win in the dual came from Kylie Bernskoetter and Lainie Mantle, who won 8-4 against Jaden Harper and Lauren Statler.

In single play, winning for the Lady Jays were Baskar (8-2) against Cowley, Donthireddy (8-4) against Bentlage, Kumar (8-4) against Bremer, Becker (9-7) against Bernskoetter, Harper (8-2) against Drinkard and Statler (8-6) against Mantle.

The Lady Jays also won the JV match 9-5.

Jefferson City (9-1) plays Saturday in the Columbia Duals against Edwardsville (Ill.) and MICDS at Rock Bridge.

Helias (4-3) hosts Hannibal on Friday.

The Lady Crusaders' JV team will also host Capital City at 4 p.m. today.
