Prep Softball: Vienna 4, Russellville 3

VIENNA - The Vienna Lady Eagles pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday to edge the Russellville Lady Indians 4-3.

Vienna led 1-0 after the first before Russellville tied it in the fourth. Both teams scored single runs in the fourth and fifth to send the game to extra innings tied at 3. In the eighth, Alicia Long doubled to score Kadence George with the game-winner.

Long and Karissa Feeler finished with three hits each for Vienna. Molly Otto, George and Gabby Wilkinson each had two hits.

Marsie Messersmith was the complete-game winner, totaling three strikeouts.

Josie Stewart totaled two RBI for the Lady Indians, while Ryleigh Case drove in one run. Cali Coombs scored twice, while Erica Schweer scored the other run. Seven Russellville players had one hit each in the game.

Hannah Malzner went the distance in the circle for Russellville. She allowed 12 hits and four walks while totaling three strikeouts.

Vienna (3-1) will play Thursday at Salem. Russellville (2-2) will host New Bloomfield on Thursday.

In Tuesday's JV game, Russellville defeated Vienna 9-2.
