Lady Jays softball loses to Troy-Buchanan to end regular season

TROY - The Jefferson City Lady Jays fell Monday in walk-off fashion, giving up a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to lose 4-3 to the Troy-Buchanan Trojans.

With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh, a single to right field scored the tying run for Troy-Buchanan, making the score 3-all. However, on the same play, the Lady Jays threw out the runner from second at home plate to keep the game going.

Later in the inning, with two outs and bases loaded again after an intentional walk, the Trojans reached on an error to score the winning run.

Jefferson City scored all three of its runs in the top of the fifth inning. Brooke Bates hit an RBI triple and later scored on a passed ball. Kara Daly then drove a 3-2 pitch over the center field fence for a home run, giving the Lady Jays a 3-1 lead.

Daly went 2-for-4, adding a single. Addison Morgan, Megan Green and Avrey Reynolds each had one single.

Reynolds took the loss in the pitcher's circle. In 3 innings of relief, she allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Green pitched the first three innings, giving up one run on two hits with four walks and one strikeout.

Jefferson City (14-10-1), the No. 3 seed in the Class 4 District 8 Tournament, plays second-seeded Hickman at 7 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals at Hickman.
