Prep Track: Class 3 Sectional 2

MONTGOMERY CITY - The Blair Oaks girls 4x800-meter relay posted the lone first-place finish among area teams Saturday in the Class 3 Sectional 2 meet.

The relay team of Natalie Heckman, Kayla Jones, Bailey Rissmiller and Emily Sporleder won the 4x800 with a time of 9:59.52.

The Lady Falcons also qualified for state in the 4x400-meter relay with a third-place finish.

In individual events, Payton Mitchell took second at sectionals in the 300-meter hurdles and Heckman placed third in the 800-meter run. Kati Schoeneberg rounds out the state qualifiers for the Lady Falcons with a fourth-place finish in the 1,600-meter run.

The Blair Oaks boys qualified two individuals for state. Marcus Edler finished third in the 100-meter dash - with a school-record time of 10.97 seconds - and Adam McCauely took second in the 800.

The Blair Oaks girls took fifth in the sectional team standings with 50 points and the boys tied for 13th with 21 points.

California went to sectionals with four athletes in six events, and the Pintos and Lady Pintos qualified for state in all of them.

Nathan Pickering finished third in the shot put and fourth in the discus, while Isaac Ash took fourth in both the 400-meter dash and the triple jump. Caden Kirksey also placed fourth in the 3,200-meter run for the Pintos.

For the California girls, their lone state qualifier is Quinn Albertson, who placed third in the javelin at sectionals.

The Pintos finished with 26 points in the sectional team standings for 10th place, while the California girls tied for 19th with six points.

The Fatima girls qualified for state in the 4x200- and 4x800-meter relays, finishing third and fourth, respectively, at sectionals.

The Lady Comets will also advance two runners to state in the 3,200. Alexis Fischer finished second at sectionals, followed by Kendall Haller in fourth place.

Fatima scored 32 points in the girls standings, finishing in eighth place. The boys were 19th with nine points.

Trinity Catholic swept the sectional team titles. The girls finished with 169 points and the boys tallied 149 points.
