Prep Baseball: St. Elizabeth 2, Helias JV 1

The St. Elizabeth Hornets began their season Monday with a 2-1 win against the Helias Crusaders JV team at the American Legion Post 5 Sports Complex.

Nolan Heckemeyer scored both of St. Elizabeth's runs in the first and third innings, while Helias scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth.

Heckemeyer went 2-for-4 at the plate and was also the winning pitcher. In three innings, he allowed one run on one hit with one and three strikeouts.

Aaron Blomberg, the Hornets' starting pitcher, threw three scoreless innings and struck out two. Dylan Wobbe closed the seventh for the save, walking one and striking out one.

Coltin Green went 3-for-4 with one RBI, while Carson Kesel had one hit and one RBI.

St. Elizabeth (1-0), ranked No. 2 in Class 1, hosts Eugene on Friday.
