Class 5 Boys

Rock Bridge 63, C.B.C. 59

SPRINGFIELD - It was a seesaw battle in the second half, but the Rock Bridge Bruins prevailed with a 63-59 victory Saturday against the C.B.C. Cadets in the Class 5 boys state championship game at JQH Arena.

The state title is the first in Rock Bridge program history, as the Bruins were making their eighth appearance at the Final Four.

C.B.C. led 17-15 after one quarter and 32-31 at halftime, but a 13-6 advantage in the third quarter put the Cadets ahead 45-37 heading into the final eight minutes.

Rock Bridge led by as many as seven points (13-6) in the first quarter, but C.B.C. held the lead for most of the second and third quarters. The Cadets' eight-point advantage was their largest of the game.

The Bruins tied the score at 47 with 5:46 to go in the fourth, the first of four ties in the final eight minutes.

With the score tied against at 57, Ja'Monta Black scored a fast-break layup with :34 to play to put Rock Bridge ahead for good. Black then got a steal and drew a foul, making a pair of free throws with :17 remaining to make the score 61-57.

C.B.C. answered with a layup, but Isiaih Mosley was fouled and made two free throws with :09 left in the game to seal the win for Rock Bridge.

Class 4 Boys

Grandview 69,
St. Mary's 64

SPRINGFIELD - The Grandview Bulldogs saw their 16-point lead in the second half disappear in the closing minutes of Saturday's Class 4 boys championship game at JQH Arena, but they finished the game on a 10-4 run to beat the St. Mary's: St. Louis Dragons 69-64.

Ahead 38-30 at halftime, the Bulldogs scored the first eight points of the second half to lead 46-30. But a little more than three minutes later, St. Mary's cut that lead to 50-43 and trailed by one, 52-51, heading into the fourth quarter.

St. Mary's tied the game at 57 and took its only lead of the second half two possessions later with a 3-pointer by Yuri Collins. That made the score 60-59 with 2:03 left in the game.

The Dragons had a chance to extend that lead, but Grandview got a pair of free throws from Deandra Sorrells, who followed that with a fast-break layup with :44 left to put the Bulldogs up by three points.

Grandview led by as many as seven points in the closing seconds.
