Prep Baseball: Russellville goes 1-1

KNOB NOSTER, Mo. - The Russellville Indians finished 1-1 on Saturday, opening with a 3-2 loss to the Lafayette County Huskers and finishing with an 11-1 win in five innings against the Knob Noster Panthers.

Russellville opened with a 2-0 lead against Lafayette County, scoring both runs in the top of the second inning. Chandler Miller and Nick Thompson each drove in a run.

The Huskers cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the frame, then scored the tying and go-ahead runs in the fifth to take a 3-2 advantage.

Russellville pitchers held Lafayette County to three hits in the game.

Thompson was credited with the loss, allowing two runs in the fifth on one hit and one walk. Dawson Koch struck out four batters in two innings and starting pitcher Braden Hickey had two strikeouts in two innings.

At the plate, Miller and Thompson each had a pair of singles. The Indians finished with seven hits.

However, against Knob Noster, Russellville collected 12 hits in five innings.

The Indians scored in each of the first four innings, pulling away with a six-run fourth inning against the Panthers.

Thompson went 3-for-3 with three singles, while Trenton Morrow had a single, a double and three RBI. Austin Roe had two singles and two RBI and Logan Cinotto added a double and two RBI.

Roe was also the winning pitcher, striking out two batters in two innings. Morrow added four strikeouts in the final two innings.

Russellville (2-1), ranked No. 2 in Class 2, hosts seventh-ranked Vienna on Monday.
