Jays set to host Crusaders in wrestling tonight

The latest installment of the crosstown wrestling showdown between the Jefferson City Jays and Helias Crusaders is scheduled for tonight at Fleming Fieldhouse.

Action is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

There are several state-ranked wrestlers on both teams.

Helias has five wrestlers currently ranked among the top six in their respective weight classes in Class 3 by MissouriWrestling.com - sophomore Gavin Adams, No. 5 at 106 pounds, freshman Jack Lage, No. 3 at 113, senior Evan Winder. No. 3 at 132, senior Randy Salaz, No. 3 at 138, and junior Jackson Careaga, No. 5 at 152.

Jefferson City has three wrestlers ranked in Class 4 - junior Sam Rackers, honorable mention at 145, junior Will Kuster No. 4 at 152 and junior Brandon Backues, No. 6 at 220. Kuster has been wrestling at 145 in recent action, while Rackers has been at 152 for Jefferson City.

Jefferson City was last in action last Thursday as the Jays defeated Eldon (51-25) and Battle (66-15) in duals at Fleming Fieldhouse.

The Jays were scheduled to host the Capital City Invitational last weekend, but the 12-team event was called off due to inclimate weather conditions.

Helias was a 60-18 winner Tuesday night in a dual at Sedalia Smith-Cotton.

Helias defeated Jefferson City 32-28 last January at Rackers Fieldhouse. It snapped an eight-year winning streak for Jefferson City against Helias in the crosstown showdown.
