ROLLA — The Helias Crusaders outscored the Rolla Bulldogs 16-6 in the final eight minutes Thursday, avenging last year's loss in the district championship game with a 53-48 win.

The win is the fifth straight for the Crusaders, their longest win streak since they began the 2017-18 season with five consecutive victories.

Helias held an early 15-10 lead after one quarter, but Rolla won the scoring battle 15-6 in the second to take a 25-21 advantage into halftime.

The Bulldogs, ranked No. 7 in Class 4, extended their lead to 42-37 by the end of the third quarter. But the Crusaders tied the score at 42 about midway through the fourth quarter and used a 7-0 run during a 1:48 stretch to pull away to the road win.

Ben Cooper scored a team-high 19 points to lead the Crusaders, while Nick Brandt added 13 points. Jake VanLoo also reached double figures with 11 points.

Helias (7-6) will host Jefferson City on Tuesday at Rackers Fieldhouse. The freshman game begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by the JV contest at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity game around 7 p.m.

In the JV game, Helias had four players score in double figures en route to a 67-40 win against Rolla.

Jeff Szumigala scored a team-high 19 points for the Crusaders, followed by Damon Johanns with 18 points. Joe Rembecki chipped in 11 points and Aaron Klahr finished with 10 points.
