Third-quarter run propels Blair Oaks past So. Boone

LINN, Mo. - Blair Oaks will get another shot at Father Tolton.

The second-seeded Falcons pulled away from the third-seeded Southern Boone Eagles in the third quarter Friday to win 60-45 in the semifinals of the Class 3 District 9 Tournament.

The victory sets up a third matchup against the Father Tolton Trailblazers, who defeated fourth-seeded North Callaway 63-29 in Friday's other semifinal game.

The Trailblazers have defeated the Falcons twice this season: 68-61 on Dec. 11 in Columbia and 71-65 on Dec. 29 in the fifth-place game of the Great 8 Classic at Fleming Fieldhouse.

Blair Oaks hasn't lost since, winning 16 straight games to reach the championship game.

Blair Oaks and Southern Boone traded the lead in the first quarter Friday night with the Eagles leading 13-11 after eight minutes of play.

Braydan Pritchett, who scored 10 points for Blair Oaks, tied the game at 13 to start the second quarter and Eric Northweather followed with a three-point play to take the lead for good.

Blair Oaks led 29-24 at halftime before beginning the third quarter on a 5-0 run. The Eagles answered with a 5-0 run, but the Falcons closed the quarter on a 12-3 run to lead 46-32.

Pritchett got the run started with a steal and three-point play to lead 37-29. Northweather later added a dunk for a 44-32 advantage before a Dru Rackers second-chance basket finished it off.

Northweather scored a game-high 21 points, Trent Martin had 12 and Rackers added 10.

Sam Stichnote led Southern Boone with 15 points, eight coming in the first quarter.

Southern Boone ends its season with a 23-3 record.

Blair Oaks (22-5) and Father Tolton (18-6) are scheduled to tip off at 3 p.m. today.
