Versailles' Trotter finishes runner-up at 182 in Class 1

COLUMBIA - Michael Trotter of Versailles became a three-time medalist by taking second Saturday night in the Class 1 state championships at Mizzou Arena.

Trotter dropped a 14-9 decision to Justin Wright of Lathrop in a back-and-forth championship match at 182 pounds.

Wright took a 2-0 lead with a first-period takedown before Trotter got a takedown and set of nearfall points at the end of the period to take a 5-2 lead.

Wright then scored 10 points in the second period with an escape, two takedowns and two sets of nearfall points to lead 12-6.

Trotter cut the deficit to five with an early escape in the third period. Wright got another takedown before Trotter got a reversal to make the final 14-9.

Trotter, who finished fifth at state in each of the last two years, ends his senior season at 41-4. Wright, a senior, ends at 44-2.

Trotter was one of two medalists for the Tigers.

Riley Rademann claimed sixth at 195 for Versailles earlier Saturday.

Rademann dropped a 7-3 decision to Jaden Whitney of Trenton in the fourth round of wrestlebacks before falling 7-1 in a tiebreaker to Cole Gripka of Maysville in the fifth-place match.

Rademann ends his season at 42-8.

Versailles, which had five state qualifiers, finished 14th in the final Class 1 team standings with 41 points.
