Osage boys have pair of medalists at Class 2 state wrestling

COLUMBIA - Both School of the Osage state qualifiers came away with state medals Saturday at the Class 2 state wrestling championships at Mizzou Arena.

Freshman Ryan Schepers went 2-0 during the morning and afternoon wrestleback sessions to take third place at 120 pounds for the Indians.

Schepers began with a win by fall in 1:44 against Kirksville's Logan Blickhan in the fourth-round wrestlebacks. He led 10-0 before the second-period pin.

In the third-place match, Schepers won a 9-2 decision against Logan-Rogervsille's Gabriel Brandenburg, who is ranked No. 6 in the state by MissouriWrestling.com. Schepers never trailed, jumping out to a 6-0 lead midway through the second period.

Osage freshman Chase Cordia also ended his season with a win, finishing in fifth-place at 138.

Cordia opened with a 2-0 loss to Excelsior Springs' Hunter Williams, who scored the match's only points with a takedown early in the first period. Williams was ranked No. 4 in the state.

In fifth-place match, Cordia came away with a 13-7 win against Southern Boone's Blake Schmidt in a matchup of Tri-County Conference foes.

Schepers, ranked No. 2 in the state, finished the season with a 42-4 record. Cordia, ranked No. 6, had a 40-7 record.

The two combined to score 30.5 points for Osage in the Class 2 team standings. The Indians finished 20th out of 51 teams.
