Tipton's Loganbill qualifies for state wrestling

HIGGINSVILLE, Mo. - The Tipton Cardinals had one top-four finisher Saturday at the Class 1 District 3 Tournament.

Drew Loganbill took fourth place at 138 pounds, finishing with a 2-2 record to qualify for the Class 1 state tournament, which begins Saturday at Mizzou Arena.

After dropping his semifinals match with a loss by fall to North Callaway's Jadon Henry, Loganbill sealed a berth at state with a win by fall in :54 against Trenton's Dakota Wendt in the consolation semifinals. He ended districts with a loss by fall to Marceline's Mason Barnett in the third-place match.

Loganbill has a season record of 25-15.

The Cardinals had three wrestlers come up one win short of qualifying for state: Chris Corley at 152, Caleb Myers at 170 and Ian Clifford at 285.

Corley won back-to-back wrestleback matches by fall before losing by fall to Missouri Military Academy's WrayVauze Givens in the consolation semifinals. Corley finished 2-2 at districts.

Myers lost by fall in his semifinal match, as well as in the consolation semifinals, to finish 1-2 at districts.

In his only match Saturday, Clifford lost by fall to Macon's Caden Phillips to go 0-2 in districts.

Other district finishers for the Cardinals include Evan Kuttenkuler at 113 (0-2), Louis Tricarico at 120 (0-2), David Sutton at 132 (0-2), Nakoda Savage at 160 (0-2), Daniel Sutton at 195 (0-2) and Levi Bryant at 220 (0-2).

Tipton finished 14th in the team standings with 24 points. Marceline was the district champion with 205.5 points, while Brookfield took second with 129.5.
