Big third quarter sends Lady Jays past Rock Bridge

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Jefferson City Lady Jays scored 15 of the first 17 points of the third quarter Friday night and defeated the Rock Bridge Bruins 46-33.

Rock Bridge closed the second quarter on a 10-2 run to cut Jefferson City's lead to 22-21 at the break.

Caitlin Anderson of the Lady Jays hit a 3-pointer for the first points of the third quarter, then closed the 15-2 run with a layup off a steal to make it 37-23. Jefferson City led 39-26 heading to the fourth quarter.

Rock Bridge got the first basket of the fourth quarter to cut its deficit to 10. Jefferson City then scored the next six points to seal the win.

Anderson finished with 15 points to pace the Lady Jays. Kara Daly added 14, while Greta Haarmann chipped in with nine.

Sarah Linthacum, Daly and Haarmann all had seven rebounds, while Anderson totaled six assists and four steals.

It is Jefferson City's first regular-season win against Rock Bridge in Columbia in more than a decade.

Jefferson City (21-0, No. 1 in Class 5) will host Helias in the opener of a girls-boys varsity doubleheader Tuesday night. The girls game will start at 6 p.m. at Fleming Fieldhouse, followed by the boys contest around 7:45 p.m.

In the JV game, Jefferson City defeated Rock Bridge 44-23. Grafton Craighead had 13 points for the Lady Jays

In the freshman game, Rock Bridge edged Jefferson City 34-31. Addison Morgan finished with 16 points for the Lady Jays.
