Jays baseball blanks Lebanon 2-0

LEBANON, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays recorded their third shutout of the season Tuesday in a 2-0 win against the Lebanon Yellowjackets to end a three-game losing streak.

Justin Wood and Blake Terry combined to throw a four-hitter for the Jays.

Wood got the start, allowing one hit and striking out two in two innings. He pitched around an error and a hit by pitch in the first with the help of a double play and a flyout.

Terry earned the win by allowing three hits with two strikeouts and a walk in five innings.

Lebanon only had one baserunner reach scoring position when Drew McBride led off the bottom of the third with a walk and advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Two flyouts ended the inning.

Jack Shinkle scored the game's first run in the fourth when he began a string of three straight two-out singles for the Jays. Wood hit an infield single and Shinkle crossed the plate on Terry's base hit to left field.

Wood, who had two of the Jays' six hits with an RBI, sent a single to right field to drive in courtesy runner Colby Thomas from third base for a 2-0 lead in the sixth.

Thomas went to second on a wild pitch and third on a passed ball before scoring.

The JV game was cancelled because of rain.

Jefferson City (14-7, receiving votes in Class 5) plays Friday at Helias (13-2, No. 2 in Class 4).

The JV game will start at 5 p.m. with the varsity contest to follow around 6:45 p.m. at the American Legion Post 5 Sports Complex.
