Lady Jays start 2-0 in Capital City Invitational

The Jefferson City Lady Jays are in the semifinals of the Capital City Invitational with a pair of wins Friday at 63 Diamonds.

Jefferson City picked up a 9-3 win against North Callaway in the first round, then knocked off defending tournament champion Blair Oaks 7-2 in the quarterfinals.

With the score tied at 3 heading into the bottom of the fifth against North Callaway, the Lady Jays pushed four runs across the plate and added two more in the sixth.

Megan Green went 4-for-4 with three singles, a home run and four RBI to lead Jefferson City. Mychael Jett, Addison Morgan and Olivia Wallace each had two singles and Wallace also drove in three runs.

Olivia Wood earned the win, pitching three innings in relief of Jett. Wood gave up three runs on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Jett started the game with four shutout innings and walked one while striking out six.

Jefferson City never trailed against Blair Oaks, scoring three runs in the top of the first innings.

The Lady Falcons closed the gap to 4-2 after four inning, but the Lady Jays answered with two runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh.

Reece DeSimone finished 4-for-4 with two singles and two doubles, while Jett hit two doubles and Green added two singles for Jefferson City. Kara Daly also collected a pair of RBI.

Jett picked up the complete-game victory, allowing two runs on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

Andi Siebeneck took the loss for Blair Oaks. In seven innings, she surrendered seven runs on 13 hits while walking two and striking out five.

For the Lady Falcons, Makenna Kliethermes, Kayla Jones, Erin Fennewald and Ellie Kliethermes each had one single.

Blair Oaks advanced to the quarterfinals with a 14-3 first-round win Friday against Cape Girardeau: Notre Dame, last year's Class 3 state runner-up.

Jefferson City (6-1) will play Oakville in the semifinals at 10:45 a.m. today. Blair Oaks (4-3) will play Lee's Summit at 10:45 a.m. today.

In other action at the Capital City Invitational on Friday, Helias won its first-round game 7-0, while Fatima dropped a 2-0 decision to Oakville.

Fatima's result against Mexico and Helias' result against Camdenton were not available at presstime.
