INDEPENDENCE - Four doubles teams took second place for Jefferson City in Friday's Blue Springs Doubles Tournament.
The tournament was organized into four different brackets. Sandhiya Baskar and Bailey Higgins placed fifth in the 'A' bracket with a 2-1 record. They started play with an 8-10 loss to Barstow, and beat teams from Lee's Summit North and Marshall 8-2 each to take fifth.
In the 'B' bracket, Akhi Donthireddy and Madelyn Becker also finished fifth with a 2-1 record, which started with a 6-10 loss to Grain Valley before they went on to beat Staley 8-6 and Lee's Summit North 8-3.
Sudhi Kumar and Jaden Harper placed second in the 'C' bracket, beating Staley and Lee's Summit North 10-2. They lost in the championship 4-10 to overall champion Barstow.
Lauren Statler and Rani Patel opened up with a 10-6 win against Barstow in the 'D' bracket, lost 10-11 (5-7) to Staley in the semifinals and won their third match 2-2 (default).
Jefferson City (9-1) plays Tuesday at Marshall.
