Pintos lose close game to Osage

CALIFORNIA - For the second straight week the California Pintos lost a one-possession game, falling short against School of the Osage 13-7 Friday night.

The Pintos turned the ball over on downs after a sack on fourth-and-14 on their 41-yard line with less than minute left to play.

California trailed 7-0 early in the first quarter after Osage blocked a punt and recovered the ball at the Pintos' 1-yard line and scored on a run.

Osage made it 13-0 after another touchdown on a 3-yard run with 1:33 left in the first quarter.

The Pintos scored their touchdown on a 67-yard completion from quarterback Alex Currens to Trystan Hees and converted the extra point try to make it 13-7 with 1:57 left in the third quarter. It was Currens' first passing touchdown of the season.

The rain caused ball security problems for California. The Pintos had trouble with a couple of snaps that went over Currens' head and the rain helped cause a few Pinto fumbles.

Head coach Mikel Gragg said the Pintos' pass defense played well in the game.

"Our secondary played lights out, they had a really good game," Gragg said. "I know (Osage) was trying to throw the ball and I am not sure if they had completed a pass all night."
